The Hawaii Room

We call this room The Hawaii Room for two reasons.

1) It's always a good twenty degrees warmer in this room than anywhere else in the house.
2) It's decorated with a whole tiki hut vibe complete with leis.

We also call it The Teenager Room because it is where the foster teens stay. It used to be a computer room, then a guest bedroom, then a junk/storage room and then it became what it is now, a room for teenagers in foster care. Our first placement picked out the colors and together we painted, stenciled, and decorated the room to her liking. Every teen after her has had to deal with it, even if it isn't their thing, because I'm not painting over it. The favorite part that every kid seems to like is the chalkboard wall.

I think this is an incredible room. Any teenager would be happy with it (although perhaps girls more than boys).

Thanks for sharing. You are doing a wonderful job to foster teens!

Love that room!! It looks perfect for a teenager. Heck, I wouldn't mind living in it. Love the chalkboard wall. Great job!

PS: do you still have "Shadow"?

Thanks =)

Yes, she started school today. Thank goodness. I'm trying to figure out how best to write a post about Shadow. Each day reveals another surprise.

That's genius!! I have this somewhat far-off dream of fostering teens, and am totally copying your chalkboard wall. See? Another reason you're a kick-ass foster parent. :)

LOL @ Roz
You should totally foster teens. You'd be great at it. In my opinion dealing with one at a time is easier. That whole youth group thing would scare the bejesus out of me ... too many teens in one place. I'm in awe of all that you do for them. And that you can get them to listen! Amazing.
